Exciting news in Vertical Farming Education!
We’re thrilled to share insights from the PROVER project’s latest findings on Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) and Vertical Farming (VF) in the Western Balkans. Funded by the Erasmus+ Programme, this initiative aims to revolutionize agricultural practices through enhanced education and industry collaboration.
Research Insights:
The PROVER project conducted extensive desk and field research to assess the current landscape of CEA and VF in partner countries. This included analyzing existing policies, academic literature, and conducting surveys among VET providers and stakeholders. Key findings underscore a growing awareness of VF technology across educational institutions in Greece, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Albania and Montenegro with significant interest in expanding educational offerings.
Survey Results:
Respondents from technical secondary schools, public VET centers, and other educational institutions across Greece, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Albania and Montenegro showed a strong awareness of VF technology. While 65% emphasized the importance of VF education for sustainable production and climate resilience, challenges such as funding and limited awareness persist. The survey highlighted a demand for improved curricula aligned with industry needs and increased collaboration with research institutions.
Educational Initiatives:
To address these challenges, the PROVER project advocates for tailored training programs that bridge the gap between educational offerings and market demands. By equipping VET providers with the necessary skills in technologies like hydroponics and indoor farming, the project aims to foster a skilled workforce capable of driving VF adoption in the region.
Impact and Future Directions:
The PROVER project stands at the forefront of promoting innovation and sustainability in agriculture. By strengthening linkages between the business sector and VET providers, it paves the way for a resilient and productive agricultural future in the Western Balkans. The findings from this report will guide strategic interventions to support VF integration and sustainable development.
Stay tuned as we continue to share updates and progress from the PROVER project, driving forward the transformation of agriculture in the Western Balkans!
